The “Jalousies - rattan” collection is woven in partnership with Chiem, a Thai weaver, and women from her small village in rural Thailand.

We carefully select sustainably grown rattan and use only environmentally friendly dyes to create the rattan colors.

The yarns are sourced in France, Italy, or Japan. We also employ our own exclusive materials.

Since training Chiem in the specific techniques for the production of our shades, we participate regularly in the growth of her workshop, always ready to help her to invest in looms and equipment.

The “Jalousies” collection is inspired by the name given in French to levered blinds, and by the “nouveau roman” novel by Alain Robbe-Grillet, la Jalousie, recounting the vision of a jealous lover teased by the glimpses he thinks he perceives through the blinds in his villa. Clair-obscur. Exotic. Tantalizing.

The “Jalousies - paper” collection is hand-woven for us in northern India, using recycled jersey cotton - the scraps created when t-shirts are cut away from the cloth and are then transformed into cotton paper. We play with graphic rhythms, weaving flat and twisted strips of the paper onto a transparent but very strong warp, to create lace-like panels with placed patterns. Guiding our esthetic are visions from Luigi Visconti and the great panels hanging in the doorways and windows of the Italian palazzos of his films. Our cotton paper panels are a contemporary interpretation of the ageless desire to filter and shelter from light.

The panels in both of the “Jalousies” collections, rattan and paper, are all project specific, woven to measure, and can be used as shades, screens, partitions, lamp shades, wall and ceiling paneling, the list is as endless as your imagination. The panels may be purchased as they come off the loom, in your requested dimensions, to then be finished by your mill-workers. Or, we can provide them ready to hang, proposing several choices for this option.
